St. Lawrence

Toronto Neighbourhood – St. Lawrence

The St. Lawrence area was developed in the 1970’s by the City of Toronto to be a mixed-use neighbourhood, where to this day has proven to be a success in urban planning.  The boundaries are Front Street East to the North, the Gardiner Expressway to the South, Parliament Street to the East and Yong Street to the West.

Within the St. Lawrence community is the St. Lawrence Market, a local staple for purchasing fresh fruits and veggies, fish, organics, fresh pastas, meats and cheeses.  The South Market is known as the “farmers” market and is open on Thursdays and Saturdays where the North Market is open all week long.

The St. Lawrence neighbourhood is home to the David Crombie Park, which runs along The Esplanade, and the St. Lawrence Community Recreation Centre (the facility includes;  swimming pool, gymnasium, squash courts, piano room, weight room and games room).

Local schools to the St. Lawrence area include

  • Market Lane Jr. & Sr.: 85 Lower Jarvis Street, Toronto (416) 393-1300 (Public)
  • St. Michael School: 50 George Street, Toronto (416) 393-5387 (Catholic)
  • Jarvis Collegiate Institute: 495 Jarvis Street, Toronto (416) 393-0140 (Public High School)
